The Tour du Beaufortain is a great traverse of 99.2 km through the mountains of Savoie, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Over 5 to 7 days, this trek takes you up 6191 meters of elevation gain to a maximum altitude of 2668 meters, offering complete immersion in the Beaufortain Alps. The landscapes constantly change: rocky peaks, dense forests, mountain lakes and impressive limestone cliffs punctuate your route. This loop allows for progressive discovery of the region, alternating between alpine passages and wooded valleys. Car-free access is simple: from Albertville SNCF train station, take the Altibus bus to Queige (starting point, approximately €22 return). In summer, free Arlysère shuttles also facilitate travel between villages in the Beaufortain. This loop trek stands out for its systematic exploration of a complete massif, ideal for anyone wanting to push their limits in the mountains.
